Your Questions
Who runs the Winter Magic Festival?
The Winter Magic Festival is managed by a volunteer local committee. This is despite the fact it is the Blue Mountains biggest annual event.

What is the date of the Winter Magic Festival?
The Festival is celebrated on the Saturday nearest the Winter Solstice each year which in 2010 is Saturday 19th June.  Watch the Festival website for details and in particular the Festival Calendar of Events which will be added shortly.

Where does the Festival take place?
The Big Saturday takes place in Katoomba Town Centre in the Blue Mountains of NSW Australia. We are about 1.5 hours drive from Sydney and a two hour train journey from the Central Station in Sydney. Most performance venues are within very easy walking distance.

What is the best way to travel to the Festival?
You can walk, drive, take a train, bus or taxi. Let us put in a special word for the train. The train leaves from the centre of Sydney and drops you right in the centre of the Festival. In fact, when you walk off the train you are in it. The train is a great way to get to Katoomba and Winter Magic. Sitting high on the ridge you have a view of the world famous Blue Mountains that the car driver has only heard about. Trains leave at 18 minutes past the hour from Sydney's Central Station. Follow this link to City Rail timetable. This site also carries details for people travelling from the west.

Katoomba also has very reliable taxi and bus services which really make the car unnecesary. Katoomba is the destination. There is really nowhere else you want to go on Festival Day. By Sunday, should you want to take a trip to wonderful Scenic World and the world's steepest railway then the bus will be waiting for you.

What age group is the Festival aimed at?
It isn't. It is a community festival and from that point of view everyone is welcome. However, the kids think they own it. You will see children barely walking age in fairy costumes, dressed as elfs and their favourite storybook character. It also a time for the young at heart. The entertainment the Festival offers at any of 10 venues will have a very wide appeal and if you can't find something to suit your taste we can always check your pulse.

What should I wear?
That again is really up to you. However, be warned that the Katoomba Fashion Police have been recruiting and will be on the lookout for particularly conservative dress. The colour beige is certain to draw a strong disciplinary response. The one piece of advice we offer freely is that you should dress warmly. We have had some bright sunny festival days but we can't guarantee them. After dark in Katoomba on Festival weekend is a very exciting time. It is also rather cold so rug up.
